The United States Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados wishes to inform the general public that the Government of the United States of America has decided to allow U.S. citizens overseas who have U.S. passports that have expired on or after 1st January 2020 to use those passports to return to the United States under limited circumstances. This measure, which was set to expire on 31st December 2021, was extended for 90 days through to 31st March 2022.
Please take note that this period will now be extended for an additional 90 days to allow the use of certain expired U.S. passports for return to the United States through to 30th June 2022.
Some U.S. citizens overseas are facing difficulties in attempting to obtain travel documents to return to the United States because of COVID-19 and its associated challenges.
The U.S. Department of State remains committed to issuing a secure passport that facilitates international travel and improves border security.
